The Institution of Certified Computer Professionals, Ireland (1992)

History

The Institution was founded in 1992 when three other computer professional bodies amalgamated – The Data Processing Management Association (1958) The Association of Computer Practitioners (1965) and the Computer Society of Ireland (1971).

The Institution of Certified Computer Professionals (ICCP) is an independent, professional examining body. Its Council Members are drawn from widely experienced professionals working in both the education and commercial sectors of the computer industry.

Aims and Objectives

The principal objectives of the Institute are:

 

  •  To advance the understanding of computing;

  •  To set standards for the computing profession;

To confer recognition upon practitioners who meet those standards.

In order to implement these objectives the Institution aims:

 

  •    To promote the provision of good training and educational activities in the computer industry and,

  •    To provide a forum in which computing may be discussed and examined.

  •    To foster better communication and closer links between computing and other management functions.

  •    To disseminate knowledge and information on computing matters and to promote a greater awareness of the proper, efficient and beneficial uses of computers

  •   To offer professional examinations and to encourage the development and presentation of courses covering the examination syllabus and to provide all possible encouragement and assistance to students

  •    To improve the effectiveness and status of those engaged in the industry.

  •    To foster and maintain a high level of professionalism

  •    To make representations to Government, Press and the public both nationally and internationally

ICCP is a leading standard bearer in the IT industry. Members regularly write to tell us of their progress. Every year, many obtain Master's degrees; several are now engaged on PhD studies

Exciting opportunities are available to those who are appropriately qualified, as is demonstrated by the success of so many ICCP members who have a welcome in multinational companies, government departments, business schools and universities around the world.

Because of rapid technological growth ICCP ensures our syllabi are reviewed an updated regularly, to keep pace with the new job opportunities..

ICCP is open to everyone. Setting our sights on the highest levels of academic and professional achievement, we endeavor to make training accessible to anyone who wishes to embark on a career in IT.
